Allen prepares to take over for Thomas as deputy city clerk

Amee Allen knows that she has big shoes to fill, but she’s incredibly grateful to get the opportunity to fill them. Jan Thomas, the current Parkersburg deputy city clerk who will retire at the end of April, can rest easily knowing that her position is in good hands.

“I’m just honored to follow in her shoes. I feel like I’m going to do my very best to be as good as Jan, and I’m excited to get to serve my community,” Allen said.

Allen has lived in Parkersburg with her husband Tim and their two children since 2015, and she has previous experience working for the city of Cedar Falls. She saw her new job as a perfect chance to get more involved in her community, which she describes as “close knit, friendly and Iowa nice.”

Thomas and Allen first met in a rather inconsequential encounter at a youth baseball game, and their bond has only grown since then. The longtime deputy city clerk has served in her role since 2003 and helped Parkersburg navigate through two of the most traumatic events in city history: the tornado of 2008 and the death of her husband— legendary A-P football coach Ed Thomas—in 2009.
