Aplington ambulance to purchase I am Responding system

At the Aplington council meeting on Wednesday, July 8, the council approved the ambulance department’s request to purchase and join the “I am Responding” system.

Ambulance crew chief Frances Krull said the cost of the system would be $614 per year. Most of the fire and emergency departments in the county signed up for the app toward the beginning of 2017.

“Aplington and Aredale are the only two that have not,” Krull said.

Aplington delayed implementing the system because unlike many other towns, the crew members work in shifts. But with the new system, they will know who is responding, where they are at, and when they will be responding. And they’ll know when not enough people are coming instead of just waiting to see.

“The longer we wait with an ambulance, that’s bad,” Krull said.

It is hoped the app will cut response times and increase efficiency for responders.

“I think it’s well worth it,” said councilman Alan Meyer.
