Aplington approves street repairs

The Aplington Council meeting Wednesday, May 9, was chiefly concerned with upkeep of the town and making Aplington a better place to live.

The council approved the low bid of $86,646.20 from Heartland Asphalt out of Mason City for street repairs.

The council discussed ways of promoting Aplington and encouraging growth in the community. They determined to take the steps necessary to abate nuisance properties.

Also discussed was the potential for a new fire station at some point, possibly at the old Dairy Sweet location. Accurate figures and more information will be necessary before a decision is made.

“Nothing will happen until next summer for sure…” said councilman Alan Meyer. “We need figures.”
