Aplington man dies after parking lot accident in Grundy Center

GRUNDY CENTER – An Aplington man was pronounced dead last night after a woman hit him while he was walking in the parking lot of the east Casey’s in Grundy Center.

 

According to a press release, Anthony Guyer, age 29, was walking in the parking lot when a Buick Lucerne driven by 77-year-old Jean Newton of Grundy Center suddenly accelerated while backing out of a parking stall, pinning Guyer between her car and a trailer attached to his work vehicle. Newton’s vehicle then continued backing up and came to a rest against the northeast wall of the store.

 

Guyer was taken to Grundy County Memorial Hospital by ambulance and was later life flighted to Iowa City, where he was pronounced dead later that day.

 

Criminal charges have not been filed in the case, and funeral arrangements are pending.
