Aplington Three Star Store celebrates five year anniversary, opening of Lunch Box café

The Three Star Store in Aplington will celebrate its fifth anniversary this Friday and Saturday with a special Open House, where owners hope to introduce the community to the newest addition to the store – the Lunch Box.

The Lunch Box, which has been up and running for about a month now, is a café area inside the store that serves hot and fresh lunch specials to community members from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily.

Karl Uhlenhopp, who owns the Three Star Store along with Mike Eiklenborg and Jeremiah Johnson, says the first month of serving lunch has been a bit hectic, but overall, a success. “The whole thing is still new, but we’ve got a lot of support from the community,” Uhlenhopp said. “We’ve even sold out of our special a few times, but that’s a great problem to have.”
