DIKE – Dike-New Hartford wrestling did enough of the right things to start 2020 on the right foot against Sumner-Fredericksburg, 37-34 victors at Dike-New Hartford High School on Thursday, Jan. 2.

The Wolverines will have tough competition next week, joining Hudson in a triangular at AGWSR High School next Thursday before next Saturday's Gladbrook-Reinbeck Duals. JV teams from Southeast Polk and West Delaware are currently the two teams expected to compete with D-NH in Reinbeck, with a third potentially joining but not confirmed.

In celebration of Senior Night for the Wolverines, they got key pinfall victories from seniors Jace Petersen and Aidan Walters to stay ahead of the Cougars in spite of giving up three forfeits at lower weights.

D-NH winners were Zach Starbuck and Jacob Leohr at 220 and 285 by forfeit, Dylan Ohrt at 126 by major decision, Petersen by pin at 138 pounds, Nick Reinicke by decision at 145, Cole Graves with a pin at 160 and Walters clinching the dual with his second-period pin of Colton Yungtum.

"He stayed in good position on his feet in that first period," D-NH head coach Tony Norton said of Walters. "We didn't know too much about the other kid but [Walters] caught him in a good move and made him pay and got that pin."
