To be the man... A-P/GC, D-NH battle at Keith Vry Invite

PARKERSBURG – The Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center wrestling team is working through an eye-opening schedule.

That includes Saturday's Keith Vry Invitational, which featured three state-ranked teams and dozens of state-ranked wrestlers in a massive 17-team field.

Competition like that didn't leave a lot of empty spots on the podium at the end of Saturday night, but APGC head coach Brian Benning knows that will be for the best when the stakes are higher for APGC's sectional tournament back in Parkersburg on Feb. 2.

"You want to be the best? You gotta see the best," Benning said. "Things will get easier for the kids, they'll see more winning and see better adjustments and come January, they'll feel good about themselves. … We could duck and dive to find a tournament where we can win matches but are we getting better if we just win matches?"
