Breathe easy Parkersburg City officials seek to reduce open yard burning in town

Communication and consideration can go a long ways, and leaders in Parkersburg hope that they can encourage residents to cut down on open air yard burning and remaining mindful of their neighbors.

City administrator Chris Luhring acknowledges that old habits can be hard to break, but he also believes that the problem can be addressed without heavy-handed government regulation or hostility. While some other area communities have ordinances on the books, that’s not the approach Parkersburg is taking.

“I think the culture is changing,” Luhring said. “The city and city staff are encouraging residents to recognize the problems themselves and to use the alternatives available.”
