Bringing public art to small town Iowa

An exciting new project will bring one more attraction to the City of Gardens: public art, which comes in the form of a mural created by local artist Madyson Hagen.

In the next few weeks, Hagen will begin working on a mural on the north side of the City Hall building in New Hartford.

Inspired by the town’s name, “The City of Gardens,” her mural will depict a garden scene. Madyson’s mother, New Hartford City Clerk Shawna Hagen, says this will be Madyson’s first mural, but that she has been drawing as long as she could hold a pencil.

“She draws on everything in sight,” Shawna said. “A couple of years ago, she helped out at the Pumpkin Festival drawing temporary tattoos on anyone who wanted one."
