Business spotlight: Butler County REC

There’s power in working together, and Butler County REC is proof.

Founded in 1936 with the goal of electrifying rural Butler County, the REC’s mission is to improve quality of life by delivering safe, reliable, affordable and environmentally responsible energy, providing innovative solutions to member needs, enhancing quality of life and viability in their communities, and creating a wide range of opportunities for employees.

Butler County REC operates out of an office in Allison and warehouses in Allison and Horton and has 1,825 miles of energized lines and an average of 5,081 consumers.

In addition to serving rural areas, Butler County REC supplies power to four municipalities: Aplington, Fairbanks, Fredericksburg and Readlyn. As a distribution cooperative, Butler County REC receives power from Corn Belt Power Cooperative in Humbolt and supplies power to members in Butler, Bremer, Chickasaw and Floyd Counties.
