Carnival for a Cause Aplington-Parkersburg Middle Schoolers organize carnival fundraiser

Local students at A-P Middle School are learning an important lesson on giving back.

Throughout the past school year, students have teamed up to research and choose a charity of their choice to donate money to, plan and promote fundraising events, write letters to community organizations and local businesses asking for support and much more.

Now, all their hard work will culminate this month with their big event - Carnival for a Cause - which will be held at the A-P Middle School in Aplington on Friday, May 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Chosen by a school-wide student vote, A-P Middle School students have decided to use their donations to support a non-profit organization called “Reunite the Fight,” which reconnects Veterans with their fellow service members by taking them on hunting and fishing trips around the country.

Local A-P 7th grader Estelle Cashatt proposed the idea for donating to the organization after her uncle hosted a group of Veterans on his land in southern Iowa as part of a “Reunite the Fight” gathering.

Cashatt’s uncle led the group of Veterans on a tour of his land to hunt, fish and connect with each other.
