Christmas begins in Parkersburg

The Christmas season officially kicked off in Parkersburg on Saturday as Santa arrived on a fire truck to light the Christmas tree and was greeted by a crowd of well over a hundred admirers.

The A-P high school choir was busy throughout Friday and Saturday as they caroled at several places around town, including local businesses and the Parkersburg Historic Home. Their performances culminated in beautiful harmony on Main Street Saturday evening as they sang favorite seasonal selections including “Jingle Bell,” “Oh Come all Ye Faithful,” “Carol of the Bells,” and “Silent Night” to a large gathering. An elf briefly conducted the crowd in a refrain of “Go Tell It on the Mountain.”

The Parkersburg Chamber of Commerce organized the celebration, and local businesses joined in to make the evening one for residents and visitors to remember.

Hot chocolate offered by Brenda’s Upholstery warmed the spirits of revelers, and the Falcon’s Nest was humming with activity as a special dinner was served.
