Citizens of the Year

David and Joyce Dickes were chosen as Parkersburg’s 2018 Citizens of the Year and received a plaque recognizing their service to the community from the Chamber of Commerce at a banquet on Saturday, February 24.

“This couple has been caring, committed, dedicated, dependable, selfless and loyal to this community,” said Chamber of Commerce President Tasha Finch. “They have always had a kind heart and a great laugh. It doesn’t matter what they were asked or what time of day it was, they were always ready to step in and help.”

The Citizen of the Year award is bestowed on recipients selected by the previous three citizens of the year.

“The most impressive trait about this couple is that they were always prepared for emergencies and helping others at difficult times,” Finch said.

And the Dickes have been there for Parkersburg in good times and bad, responding after the tornado and helping with RAGBRAI, soccer concessions, Fun Days, the annual Christmas celebration and much more.
