County attorney marks 30 years in office

“The guilty don’t have a prayer,” a framed Cadfael television series poster behind Butler County attorney Greg Lievens desk reads.

Lievens, a man who shuns the spotlight and would prefer the reader’s focus to be on the many good people in the county rather than on the handful who commit crimes, has served as county attorney for 30 years.

He was re-elected this November with over 98 percent of the vote.

The biggest changes Lievens has seen in the county attorney’s office in the past 30 years have been in technology. Since 2014, his office has switched completely to electronic filing with no paper records at the courthouse for criminal or juvenile cases.

There have also been changes in the severity and leniency of laws in certain areas.
