D-NH wrestling claims two victories in Ackley

ACKLEY – Dike-New Hartford wrestling won both of its duals on Thursday at AGWSR High School, defeating AGWSR 57-24 and winning 37-36 against Hudson.

Hudson won the night's other dual, 42-29 victors against AGWSR.

The Wolverines' triumph over Hudson was a highlight, overcoming three forfeits at the lower weights to oust the Pirates in the final match of the dual.

Hudson led 36-27 with the final two matches on the mats in Ackley. On one mat, D-NH's Jacob Leohr was finishing up a win against Hudson's Tony Trevino, but his coaches implored him to get one more point to get to a major decision and get the Wolverines in position to win it. Leohr was able to get those last points in the final seconds, and it came down to Dylan Ohrt at 126 pounds and D-NH trailing 36-31.

Ohrt delivered a first-period pin of Jack Christianson to secure the dual victory for the Wolverines.

"I don't know if [Leohr] knew the team score but I heard the coaches down there yelling at him so they obviously knew," D-NH head coach Tony Norton said. Norton was on the other mat with Ohrt at the time. "That put Dylan in position to win the whole thing. We lost a couple that we had a chance to win, too, but Hudson did a nice job. That was a fun one – makes sure the ol' ticker still works."
