Dirty Birds compete in first youth dual at Dan Gable Museum

After about a year in the making, the wait was worth it for the Dirty Bird Wrestling Club.

The youth wrestling group based out of the Aplington-Parkersburg area and including young grapplers from the surrounding areas, engaged in the first-ever youth dual within the walls of the Dan Gable Museum at a recent addition to the building at 303 Jefferson Street in Waterloo, a series of matches held on Friday, Nov. 22.

The Dirty Birds took on the Future Trojans/Evansdale Wolves in a series of 21 matches pairing up similar skill levels and ages for the most competitive matches possible to be performed within the walls of a building dedicated to the history of the sport.

The discussion started about a year ago between Future Trojans coach Ryan Sallis and the Dirty Birds' director Brian Jorgenson. The Future Trojans had already used the Museum area as a practice space, but Sallis was interested in getting a competition off the ground.

"We finally made it happen," Jorgenson said.
