Falcon boys finish 2nd in NICL East

After missing out on the NICL East title after last Monday's loss to Dike-New Hartford and a difficult matchup against Class 1A powerhouse Grand View Christian in Aplington-Parkersburg's final home game, the Falcons bounced back on the road with big wins against Denver and Sumner-Fredericksburg.

A-P maintained its runner-up spot in the league, finishing 13-2 in the NICL East, one game behind the Wolverines at 14-1. Both teams lost games against Wapsie Valley to recent winter weather.

The Falcons defeated Denver 73-56 on Friday and locked down the Cougars, 56-23, on Saturday.

A-P head coach Aaron Thomas expressed pride in how the Falcons' defense limited Denver's league-leading offense well below the Cyclones' 70 points-per-game average.

"We got back to shooting the ball well," Thomas added, "and we had good production all the way around, but the defensive effort was the difference and it helped us pull away."
