Falcons let it fly in 2nd half

NEW HAMPTON – The Aplington-Parkersburg football team was trying to grind out a running game against a stingy New Hampton defense.

Trailing 12-0 in the third quarter, the Falcons found some daylight in the passing game.

"I think that opened our guys' eyes," A-P head coach Alex Pollock said. "The guys realized they could do it, that all it takes is one big play."

Carter Cuvelier found Jacob Kalkwarf and Aaron Price for passing touchdowns, and A-P's defense held the Chickasaws in check the rest of the way for a 13-12 victory in New Hampton on Friday.

Cuvelier finished 8-of-23 passing for 109 yards and two scores. Jack Haren had two catches for 44 yards, while Sam Nolte led the running game with 29 carries for 95 yards.

"We really started making some plays and it opened up the run game a little bit more," Pollock said. "In the fourth quarter, I think our offensive line wore down their defensive line. That goes back to preseason camp and everything with conditioning and stuff like that that isn't very fun, but it was nice to see that in Week 1."
