Harlan Schuck named Citizen of the Year

Longtime Parkersburg councilman Harlan Schuck was named the 2019 Citizen of the Year and presented with a plaque recognizing his service to the community from the Chamber of Commerce at a banquet on Saturday evening, Feb. 2.

The Citizen of the Year award, in its 78th year, is bestowed on recipients selected by the previous three citizens of the year. The evening started with appetizers and a trivia game, where diners answered questions such as “Who was this year’s Miss Parkersburg?” and “Where was the Easter Egg Hunt held last year?” A full dinner, catered by Legend Trail, was served. Desserts from the Peppercorn Pantry came next, followed by another game.

At the end of the evening, Chamber of Commerce Board President Tasha Finch presented the citizen of the year plaque to Schuck and spoke about the work Schuck has done for the city of Parkersburg over the years.

Upon receiving the award, Schuck gave credit to his wife, Margaret. The two recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. “I don’t know what to say,” Schu ck said.
