Jungling record paces A-P girls cross country to win

DIKE – Sophia Jungling set a new Aplington-Parkersburg record in her win at the Wolverine Invitational at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike on Oct. 8.

The Falcon senior won the race in 18 minutes, 28 seconds, a second faster than Iowa Falls-Alden/AGWSR's Ellie Meyer. A-P won the team title with a 90 score, beating out runner-up Charles City with 112 points and NICL foe Denver's 116 points in third. D-NH finished in sixth with 152 points.

Jungling said Meyer had the lead through most of the first half of the race, but had caught up by the second mile and was stride-for-stride with Meyer to the very end.

"The middle-distance runner in me loves the sprints to the finish," Jungling said. "I mentally told myself I had one more push in me and edged her out at the finish line. She's a great competitor and a great person."
