Klinkenborg receives “Ag Leader” recognition for work on cover crops

Sam Klinkenborg has always loved agriculture, flying and his hometown, so after the Parkersburg native wrapped up a 10- year stint in the Marine Corps, he launched an aerial spraying business and never looked back.

“I wanted to stay in agriculture, and I wanted to fly,” he said. “So it was a good fit.”

Last Thursday, Klinkenborg was recognized as an “Iowa Ag Leader” by Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig for his trailblazing work in the field of cover crop seeding.

As the son of a lawyer and a hospital administrator, Klinkenborg wasn’t a full-time farmer as a child, but the family had livestock. He always loved agriculture and the outdoors, and crop spraying offered an opportunity to stay close to home instead of travelling across the world as a commercial pilot.
