Local church to open collections for Operation Christmas Child

For nearly a decade, the Parkersburg Christian Reformed Church has collected shoeboxes filled with gifts to donate to Operation Christmas Child – a project started by Samaritan’s Purse to bring joy and spread the gospel to children across the world around the Christmas season.

For those unfamiliar with Operation Christmas Child, the idea is to fill a shoe box with goodies such as toys and games, school supplies, clothing or shoes, or hygiene products such as soap or a toothbrush, and take it to an Operation Christmas Child drop off location. From there, the box will be distributed to children in need across the world, oftentimes in war-torn or poverty-stricken areas. While there, ministers also share the word of God with those children, in the hopes that those children will share the gospel with their families and grow the church.

Here in Parkersburg, the Christian Reformed Church is an official drop-off location for Operation Christmas Child, where anyone can drop off their shoe box filled with goodies for a child in need during the week of November 12th – 19th.

Local church employee Angie Meester - who acts as Dropoff Coordinator for Operation Christmas Child at the church – says the project is one of her greatest passions.
