Local rock painting group hopes to spread happiness

Residents of Parkersburg are spreading kindness, happiness and love one rock at a time.

Chances are, you’ve probably stumbled upon one of these painted rocks, which are scattered and hidden all around town. Maybe you’ve found one with an inspirational message or a hand painted picture on it; chances are it made you smile - that’s the goal.

When Parkersburg resident Jolyn Timmer and her aunt Mattie Manadero Schipper started the “Parkersburg Rocks” group over a year ago, they wanted to take part in a nationwide initiative to spread happiness within their own community.

They do this by painting rocks, and hiding them in places for people to find. The idea is that once someone finds the rock, they will re-hide it for someone else to discover, or paint their own rock to hide, sharing the happiness.
