Maitland officially joins city public works team on full-time basis

To call Hunter Maitland a new face with the city of Parkersburg’s Public Works department wouldn’t be accurate in the least: he’s been working here since before he had a driver’s license.

Maitland, a 2018 A-P graduate who has lived all of his life in Parkersburg, is officially onboard on a full-time basis after several years of part-time work as a high school student, and he couldn’t be more excited to get started. He’ll be joining longtime employee Rod Luhring and, as of next week, new hire Tim Kolder.

He’s been spending most of the last year working toward his certification in wastewater treatment (he’s still working on the water treatment side of it), and Maitland will be in charge of the parks and the cemetery initially. While working for the city wasn’t necessarily his first dream as a kid, he says it’s something he’s glad he fell into, and a weight came off his shoulder when he knew he’d finally secured a full-time job.
