Mohwinkle recognized for educational excellence

Longtime A-P teacher Kerri Mohwinkle was recently selected as the “Educator of the Game” during a UNI football game in September, honoring her commitment to, and excellence in, education.

The “Educator of the Game” recognition is a new initiative through UNI that seeks to recognize and elevate professional educators in Iowa and nationwide. Different educators are nominated, and given the opportunity to be recognized by friends, family and fans during different athletic events at the university.

When Mohwinkle found out she’d been nominated for the “Educator of the Game” award through UNI, she says she was surprised, and honored.

“It was really special because UNI is my alma mater, so it was fun to be recognized by the school,” she said. “I even had some current and former students in the crowd, too, so that made it extra fun to see them cheering me on.”

Mohwinkle has been teaching for 26 years, with 21 of those years being within the Aplington-Parkersburg School District. During her time at the A-P, Mohwinkle has filled many roles: teaching English, reading, science, Title 1, At-Risk, volleyball coaching and more. Currently, Mohwinkle teaches 5th grade at the Aplington building.
