Naig, Sweeney visit Butler County Fair

In between meetings on water quality and other events, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and State Senator Annette Sweeney made time to stop out to the Butler County Fair in Allison last Wednesday.

Butler County Fair Board Director Sue Ebensberger met up with Naig and Sweeney to give them a tour of the fairgrounds, showcasing the different barns, talking about 4-H projects and even filling them in on a new project the fair board is working on to create a multi-purpose community building at the fairgrounds.

Naig said one of his goals as Secretary of Ag is to visit the county fair in all of Iowa’s 99 counties before the end of his first term. His visit to the Butler County Fair was only the second of this year’s county fair season.

“I love visiting county fairs because they’re such great community events, and I’m just amazed because I can tell here that you have such a dedicated board that works together to make this happen,” Naig said. “County fairs do a great job at not only showcasing ag, but giving the younger generation an opportunity to learn and lead.”
