New K-9 training facility opens in New Hartford

Two longtime law enforcement officers – Matt Harris and Tyler Brownell – are bringing an exciting new business to New Hartford: High Velocity Canine LLC, a training center for law enforcement dogs.

Both Harris and Brownell have spent an extensive amount of time working with, and training, law enforcement dogs over the years.

Harris lives in Waverly and has worked for the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office for the last 20 years; Brownell, who lives in Waterloo, is an Army veteran who served in the National Guard for 12 years and worked for the Waterloo Police Department for the last nine years before his recent retirement.

It was their love for dogs that led the two longtime friends and colleagues to start their own business training law enforcement K-9s.

“I really enjoy working with dogs,” Harris said. “They’re very loyal and intelligent creatures, and it’s amazing what you can teach them to do. They have such a high willingness to work. And they teach me, too; I learn something new everyday, so it keeps things interesting.”
