A-P high schoolers take part in community service learning day

Before the end of the school year, as classes are winding down, students at A-P High School had one more lesson to learn: community service and giving back.

Students spent their annual service learning day, held on May 30 this year, cleaning up the town; tidying up flower beds, weeding, picking up trash and helping elderly community members with work around their lawns and homes.

A-P High School Principal Aaron Thomas says he believes the annual service learning day is a great lesson for kids - so much so that the school has made it mandatory for students to complete at least some form of community service each year.

“The service day started after the tornado, as a way to remember and help others in the community,” he said. “In the past we’ve planted trees, and we try to do something different each year.”
