A-P softball wins slugfest with G-R

GLADBROOK – The Aplington-Parkersburg softball team outlasted Gladbrook-Reinbeck in a Tuesday-evening slugfest, winning 16-12 in eight innings.

The Falcons (2-8) combined for 23 hits and took advantage of four Rebel errors to come out on top. A-P led 12-10 heading into the final half-inning for G-R, but the Rebels (1-9) were able to tie the game and force extras.

With two outs and Falcons on the corners in the eighth, Jaycie Ellis and Jenna Boring hit back-to-back RBI singles, and Sarah Gaul brought in two more runs with a double. Hailey DeVries retired the Rebels in order in the bottom of the eighth for the pitching victory.

Boring was 5 for 5 at the plate and Ellis and Gaul finished with four hits each, with all three knocking in three runs each.
