A-P students organize fundraiser for injured staff member

Talking to students, it’s evident that longtime Aplington-Parkersburg custodian and bus driver Scott Borchardt has had a tremendous impact on the school.

“He’s just such a nice guy, through and through,” said Maddie Waller, a student at A-P High School. “He drives the bus for a lot of extracurriculars, and he comes to all the games to cheer the kids on. When he’s in the hallway at school, he always makes the extra effort to say hi to all the kids, and he knows everyone’s names. He really cares about the kids on a personal level, and he always goes above and beyond to let us know he’s there to help.”

So when Borchardt suffered a serious fall earlier this month that left him in the hospital with a number of broken bones and other injuries, students wasted no time in showing him that he was in their thoughts; they flooded his mailbox with cards, fruit baskets and more - even organizing a fundraiser to help with his medical bills.
