A-P volleyball finds strength in comeback

PARKERSBURG – Erin Huddleson needed her captains to step up.

Aplington-Parkersburg volleyball dropped the first two sets to West Marshall last Tuesday, and Huddleson, the Falcons' head coach, pulled Jaycie Ellis and Britney Gibson aside to encourage them to give their teammates a boost.

"They had to get their heads in the game and fire up the team," Huddleson said. "We came back on the floor and they took the team over themselves and fired them up.

"And when we're fired up, we're very fired up."

The Falcons fought off match point in the third set to continue the match, and used that momentum to dominate the next two sets for a five-set comeback victory over the Trojans, earning a standing ovation from the A-P fans at A-P High School.

A-P (4-2) won 14-25, 23-25, 27-25, 25-19, 15-6. In the fifth set, A-P hammered out an 8-0 lead before West Marshall got on the board.
