Parkersburg council awards contract on water main project

During its regular monthly meeting on Monday night, the Parkersburg city council awarded a contract to Anstoetter Construction of Farley for the Railroad Street water main project.

With three alternate bids and an eight-inch water main, the total cost of the contract is $1,159,907. 51, and $500,000 will be covered under a grant to the city. An additional $700,000 has been bonded for, and Anstoetter’s bid was at least $300,000 below any of the others.

Work is expected to start sometime in spring or summer of 2019, and after a bit of back and forth, the council opted to go with the alternates in addition to the base bid of $978,000. Methods for maintaining access to the downtown area during the installation were also discussed.
