Parkersburg LIGHTS UP for Christmas

Rain, wind and cold couldn’t keep Parkersburg residents from celebrating the kickoff of Christmas season in Parkersburg with the “Downtown in December” event on Saturday evening. The weather forced a few changes to some of the events planned, including horse carriage rides and caroling by singers from Aplington-Parkersburg High School.

However, there were still plenty of opportunities to celebrate the holiday season.

The day started with a showing of “The Star” at Kothe Memorial Library, a 2017 animated film about the first Christmas. Children and their parents were then invited to participate in a variety of events, including cookie decorating, Christmas karaoke and ornament making at the library; a Christmas scavenger hunt at downtown businesses in Parkersburg, a hot chocolate bar and, of course, a chance to meet Santa at his Santa House on Third Street.
