Parkersburg plans "Downtown in December" holiday festivities

PARKERSBURG - The City of Parkersburg is encouraging residents to get in the holiday spirit by joining in on the “Downtown in December” festivities this weekend.

There will be festive fun for the whole family, including visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, holiday crafts, carolers, carriage rides, the Christmas tree lighting and more.

“This event is a great way to celebrate the season with your neighbors and friends - and maybe some out of towners too,” said Deputy City Clerk Aimee Allan. “It takes so many people to make something like this come together and we’re so grateful to all the people that have volunteered to make this happen.”

Kicking off the fun on Saturday, December 7th, is a breakfast with Mrs. Claus from 10 to 11 a.m. at Kothe Memorial Library. Throughout the rest of the day, the library will be hosting different events, including cookie decorating, a free Christmas movie, story time with The Grinch, and a make your own ornament craft.

Throughout town, businesses will be holding Open Houses, with crafts, activities and holiday treats.

You won’t want to miss the horse and carriage rides from 3 to 5 p.m. (starting at the Historical Home).

The main event - Santa’s arrival and the tree lighting - will begin at 6 p.m. sharp.
