A Passion for Remote Control Aviation

“It’s cheaper than bass fishing and cheaper than golf,” Neal Leeper, president of the Black Hawk Remote Control Pilots club said.

But that’s not why remote control airplane enthusiasts gather at the airfield just outside of New Har tford for events, or why members of the club head out to the airfield any time there’s perfect weather for flying.

It’s fun.

“I think you learn a lot of different things. You hang around with people, you visit, you talk. … The more you hang around with people that do it all the time, the more you learn, and it’s like an enjoyable form of school,” club member Lorne Bidwell said. “The net result isn’t a passing grade, it’s whether your airplane flies or not. The more you do it, the more you enjoy it.”
