Police officer hired, sidewalks and portable buildings discussed

At the Aplington council meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 13, the sidewalk project on Parriott Street was discussed, and ordinances concerning utility rates and portable buildings were on the table.

The council approved the hire of Dakota Gaede as a police officer. Gaede was sworn in by the mayor, and will begin serving on March 1.

Don Moore of Clapsaddle Garber Associates, the city’s engineering firm, informed the council the north sidewalk project for Parriott Street will have a bid opening on March 14 at 2 p.m.When the council f i rst planned this project in 2015, the bids all came in too high, so the project was put on a back burner. Most of the original plans drawn up by engineers are still good and will be used for the project.

The first reading for an ordinance amending water rates was approved. Under the new ordinance, there will be a $15 minimum, and over that, water will cost $5.50 per thousand. The first reading for an ordinance amending sewer rates was approved.
