In the potter’s hands

When Janna Voss of Aplington retired from serving for 20 years as principal at Timothy Christian School last May, she had no intentions of sitting back for a life of ease and leisure. Only a month after her retirement, she purchased the old International dealership building in Austinville and opened her own pottery studio.

Pottery is a lifelong passion for Voss. Molding and shaping clay, she is constantly reminded of her Creator.

“Isaiah 64:8 talks about how we are the clay. God is the potter, and we are all the work of his hands, and so I just see that connection that God molds and shapes us,” Voss said.

Voss specializes in creating bowls, pitchers and birds, which she offers at her shop and at craft shows. She loves public speaking and shares her faith with pottery talks for men’s and women’s groups at churches.

She enjoys bringing her pottery to events and speaking about God’s work as a potter.
