Quilting for a cause: Area native donates quilts to Aplington nursing home

Some of the best gifts are those that come from the heart, and one area native - Barb Croot - did her part to spread the joy this Christmas by stitching and donating a dozen quilts to residents at Maple Manor nursing home in Aplington.

Croot, who lives in Iowa Falls now but grew up south of Austinville and still has family in the area, decided she wanted to do something nice for others this Christmas.

“I make quilts for family and friends, and I decided I wanted to donate some quilts to a local nursing home,” she said. “My mother lived at Maple Manor before she passed, and I have a cousin who lives there now, so I have a connection to [the nursing home there].”

Croot says she’s always loved to quilt, and after retiring in March of this year, she has a lot more time for her hobby.
