Running Horse Ridge offers variety of horse experiences

Riding and training horses is a lifelong passion for Beth Burrell of Running Horse Ridge in rural New Hartford.

Burrell offers riding lessons, therapeutic riding services, unicorn and cowboy-themed birthday parties for kids, and a horse-owning experience.

Riding, she feels, brings students a sense of accomplishment as well as the responsibility that comes with caring for something other than themselves.

Beginning students learn horse and barn safety, grooming, how to tack and un-tack a horse, how to make the horse walk, trot and eventually canter, mounted games, proper riding positions, ground work, how to feed and care for a horse, how to maintain barns and stalls, and all about the horse, saddle and bridle.

“My goal is for my students to have enough knowledge to eventually own, maintain and ride their own horse properly,” Burrell said.
