Shooting struggles sink A-P girls at home

PARKERSBURG – Aplington-Parkersburg girls basketball feeds off pressure.

But the pressure is most effective on a made basket, and the Falcons couldn't get enough of those on Friday in a 41-31 defeat versus the visiting Denver Cyclones at Aplington-Parkersburg High School.

A-P fell to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the NICL East. Denver improved to 8-5 overall, 5-3 in the division.

A-P made nine of 43 shots (20.9 percent) on Friday. Denver was not much better at 10-of-39, but seven of those were three-pointers, and the Cyclones outrebounded A-P 42-29.

Jaycie Ellis and Megan Johnson paced the Falcons with seven points each, Ainsley Brungard grabbed nine rebounds to lead A-P's rebounding effort.

"We're at our best when we can cause a little havoc but we have to score to be able to do that," A-P head coach Jason Berkey said. "We had way too many turnovers in the first half and we just didn't hit shots."
