State track and field: Falcons 2nd in distance medley photo finish (PHOTOS)

DES MOINES – Sophia Jungling and Aplington-Parkersburg's distance medley relay team was a split-second away from a second Falcon state title this weekend.

Mid-Prairie's Marie Hostetler caught Jungling at the line, a race decided by two hundredths of a second as A-P settled for second with the team of Sommer Stotler, Karson DeGroote, Maci Freund and Jungling running 4:08.76.

"It comes down to every hand-off, every take-off," Jungling said. "The girls got me in a great spot and I took it from there. No matter the outcome, we'll be strong about it and do our part to get more team points on the board and hopefully bring home a team trophy."

With 10 events scored, A-P sits third in the team standings with 21 points, trailing Panorama (27) and Mid-Prairie (25). The Falcons have two runners in the 800 tomorrow in Jungling and Megan Johnson, and Jungling will run in the 1,500 as well.

Other Friday A-P results:

-- Junior Bodden was ninth in the high jump after clearing 6-1.

-- Jack Haren placed 12th in the 400 hurdles in 57.65.

-- Gannon Oberhauser was 21st in the boys 110 hurdles in 16.42.

-- Junior Bodden, Jacob Kalkwarf, Terrence Colar and Morgan Knock ran the boys 4x200 relay in 1:34.47 for 23rd place.
