Supervisors reach decision on Orchid Lane

Butler County and the city of Parkersburg have agreed to split costs down the middle on a staged process to prepare a base and seal coat on Orchid Lane, with the project to end at the Legend Trails north property line.

The decision came on May 22 after years of discussion on jurisdiction— going back before some of the current supervisors were even in office.

Supervisor Greg Barnett said he had felt trapped by having the whole thing going on so long.

“This scenario was unique in that two different jurisdictions were involved on the same road…” said Supervisor Rusty Eddy. “I’m happy to have some finality.”

Eddy said that after the May 15 meeting he had talked with the city, and they didn’t think a 2/3 city and 1/3 county costshare scheme would work. He introduced the motion for the 50/50 split as something both the city and county could agree to—and afford if the work is staged, possibly over two years.
