They can play: Opening day for the Miracle League

Bradley Waller Field, a handicap-accessible baseball park for individuals ages 5 to 20 that is one of the cornerstone projects of the new All-Play Ball Park in Parkersburg, celebrated Opening Day on Saturday morning.

The Twins and Angels, two nine-player teams, took the field along with middle school and high school volunteers who helped them make contact at the plate, guide them around the basepaths or make the play on a groundball.

Having volunteers pitch in allowed parents of the players and other community members to enjoy the game in the stands.

The Diamonds and Fields non-profit organization, with members Matt Waller, Dan Bruns, Dave Cleary, Tara Miller and Klay Hoppenworth, have been the organized group behind the $2.2 million project, which also includes new baseball, softball and soccer fields.
