Thorn, Arends participate in Shrine Bowl

CEDAR FALLS – Aplington-Parkersburg graduate Sam Thorn and Dike-New Hartford grad Chase Arends were chosen to represent their schools in the 2018 Shrine Bowl, with the traditional North vs. South game held on Saturday in the UNI-Dome.

Thorn and Arends were part of the North squad, which fell to the South in a 59-14 romp.

The Shrine Bowl experience is about much more than Saturday's game, which Thorn and Arends experienced in the preparation for the game.

"It's all about the kids," Arends said of those at The Shriners Hospital for Children, for which the Shrine Bowl is a fundraiser. "That's the whole reason we're here."
