Uhlenhopp heading to districts

PARKERSBURG – A familiar foe joined Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center junior Brier Uhlenhopp in the circle on Saturday afternoon.

Dike-New Hartford's Reece Roberts and Uhlenhopp were going to battle for a third time this season, but this time both would be trying to keep their seasons alive.

After two wins against Roberts in their previous meetings, Uhlenhopp was able to make it a trifecta with a second-period pin of Roberts and advance as A-P/GC's lone district qualifier from a sectional tournament at A-P High School on Saturday.

Uhlenhopp will wrestle at this Saturday's district meet in Independence, with action starting at noon.

The Wolverines also advanced six wrestlers to the next round after all six finished as runners-up: Jace Petersen, Aidan Walters, Zach Starbuck, Nathan Graves, Daniel Graves and Jacob Leohr.

A-P/GC's Zach Klahsen (113 pounds), Nathan Klahsen (138) and Ben Ogle (160) all finished third in their respective weight divisions on Saturday. Both Klahsens won their third-place matches but did not receive wrestlebacks. Union's Kaleb Roach defeated Ogle in a wrestleback at 160 by fall.
