Wolf Mansion named to Most Endangered Properties list

Each year, Preservation Iowa designates historic properties across the state to their “Most Endangered Properties” list as a way to bring attention to these properties, and to potentially increase funding to promote historic preservation.

This year, the C.C. Wolf Mansion in Parkersburg was named to the list after members of the Parkersburg Historical Society nominated the property.

“We want to make sure people know this isn’t a bad thing to be on the most endangered list, it’s just a way to bring awareness to the house,” said Rick Gersema, President of the Parkersburg Historical Society. “Being on the list also opens more doors for grant money.”

The C.C. Wolf Mansion at 401 5th Street was built in 1895 for local banker and land owner Charles C. Wolf and his wife Mary. From the time it was built until today, the house has seen much history, and has been a constant part of the community.

Aside from being a private residence, it once housed the public library and community meeting rooms, and for a short time it was even home to elementary students in Parkersburg, before it became the home of the Parkersburg Historical Society.
