Charles “Charlie” Frank Schults, 77

Charles “Charlie” Frank Schults, age 77, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Frank and Rhoda (Martin) Schults on April 16, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa.  In 1966, Charlie graduated from West High School in Waterloo.   Charlie served in the United States Army from October 1966 until he was honorably discharged in July 1968.  During this time, Charlie served in Vietnam. In 1986, Charlie met Judith Ann (Marks) Melcher at a Parents Without Partners volleyball event.  In August 2002,  Charlie  and Judy were married at the farm where they resided.  Charlie was employed at John Deere Tractor Works. 

Charlie “Uncle Bill” was a member of the Salvation Army.  Charlie and Judy supported and worked at his son’s, Kevin’s, haunted attraction.  Charlie was a women’s softball coach.  He enjoyed fishing and playing cards.  Charlie was a very selfless and giving person.

Charlie died on Friday, January 3, 2025, at his home in rural Parkersburg, of natural causes.  Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rhoda Schults and four sisters.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Judy Melcher – Schults of Parkersburg; his children, Tim (Rita) Schults of Waverly, Kevin Schults of Waterloo, Ryan (Jess) Schults of Traer, Greg (Lisa) Melcher of Parkersburg, Jeff (Jodi) Melcher of Holland, Michele (Mike) Zimmerman of Springville and Jerry (Jan) Melcher of Parkersburg; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rhoda Spore of Waterloo.
