PARKERSBURG – After a first-quarter tie, Dike-New Hartford girls basketball took over the rest of the game in a 73-36 triumph at Aplington-Parkersburg on Friday night.

The Wolverines outrebounded the Falcons 51-27, including 17 rebounds for Jadyn Petersen who added 15 points. Payton Petersen scored 24 points with 14 rebounds, six assists, and five steals and Ellie Knock scored 15 points with 13 rebounds.

The teams were tied 15-15 after eight minutes. The second quarter belonged to D-NH, an 18-5 advantage that provided the needed momentum for the Wolverines.

The win clinched another NICL Central title for D-NH. Bruce Dall’s squad hasn’t lost a game in its division since a Dec. 11, 2018 loss to Aplington-Parkersburg - the Wolverines have won 59 games in a row in either the NICL East or NICL Central configurations.

Peyton Klooster came off the bench with 12 points to lead the Falcons. Kendall Riherd led A-P starters with eight points and Ellen Waller added six points.

The top-ranked Wolverines improved to 19-0 and have two non-division games to complete the regular season this week - Tuesday at home against 1A No. 1 Bishop Garrigan, then on the road at South Hardin on Thursday.

D-NH, ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, begins their quest for a third-consecutive state title against either Wapsie Valley or Waterloo Columbus in a 2A Region 1 final in Dike on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

A-P finished the regular season with a 53-46 win at Sumner-Fredericksburg on Monday, Feb. 6. The postseason begins on Valentine’s Day at home in a regional quarterfinal against the winner of a Postville/South Winneshiek matchup scheduled for Saturday.
