Darlene Frances Arends, 94

Darlene Frances Arends, age 94, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of John J. and Mae (Finger) Lindaman, on January 12, 1931, at home in Butler County, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1949. After her graduation, Darlene worked for a dentist in Wellsburg.
On August 7, 1951, Darlene was united in marriage with Glen Leroy Arends at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church in Ackley, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Fern, Iowa, for a short time. They then moved to a farm south of Parkersburg. After their retirement, the couple moved to Parkersburg. Darlene enjoyed her role of being a homemaker and mother. Throughout the years, she worked as a teacher’s aide for the Parkersburg School, a cook at the Parkersburg Civic Center for Hawkeye Valley Area Agency and at the sale barn in Waverly, Iowa.
Darlene was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland, Iowa, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and participated in their Ladies Guild. She was a member of the Parkersburg Auxiliary American Legion. Darlene was famous for her homemade sweet pickles. Darlene enjoyed quilting, gardening and attending breakfast with the ladies of her coffee club.
Darlene passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Arlington Place of Grundy Center, Iowa, of natural causes. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Glen Arends on December 5, 2013; a daughter-in-law, Loretta Arends; a great granddaughter, Charlotte Arends; her parents, John and Mae Lindaman; and two brothers and their spouses, Lloyd (Myrle) Lindaman and Delbert (Florence) Lindaman.
Darlene is survived by two sons, Randy (Mary) Arends of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Roger (Karla) Arends of Parkersburg; one daughter, Glenda (Bryan) Cuvelier of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren, Brad (Brittney) Arends, Sara (Zach) Anderson, Todd (Sarah) Arends, Travis (Ashley) Arends, Tyler (Mary) Cuvelier, Molly (Ryan) Schulte and Austin (Meridith) Cuvelier; and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland with Mr. Dale Akkerman officiating the service. Organist was Deb Fisher, and she accompanied the congregation as they sang “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Glenda Cuvelier read a poem. The burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg with Brad Arends, Todd Arends, Travis Arends, Zach Anderson, Tyler Cuvelier and Austin Cuvelier serving as Casketbearers. Honorary Casketbearer was Ryan Schulte.
Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
