Darryl Dean Reints, 87

Darryl Dean Reints, age 87, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Elmer and Dena (Williams) Reints, on October 16, 1938, on his grandmother’s front porch in Parkersburg, Iowa. He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1957. After high school, Darryl moved to Kansas City and attended Stevinson Auto and Electrical School for auto body and fender repair.
Darryl met Marlene Card at the Black Hawk Roller Dome in Waterloo. On November 30, 1963, they were united in marriage at the Downing Avenue Gospel Hall in Waterloo. Over the years, Darryl worked in various auto body shops around Iowa and became a legend in the auto body industry. From 1978-1993 Darryl owned Darryl’s Body Shop in Aplington. Due to his hearing disability, he was never able to use a telephone, and he often relied on his friends and children to order shop supplies and parts. After dual knee replacement, he retired in 1998 but never stopped working.
He was a member of the Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He was also a 30-year member of the Lion’s Club and was elected Lion of the Year in 2008. In 1986, Darryl and his two sons built a new home in Aplington then moved to Parkersburg in 2005. In 2008, Darryl and Marlene lost their home in the Parkersburg tornado, but with the support of loved ones they rebuilt stronger. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and golfing. Darryl was an avid fisherman. His number one passion was doing body work on cars. Most of all he loved spending time with family.
